It's quite probable that a prolonged thumb sucking and anterior tongue thrust habit contributed to the narrow upper jaw and incisor openbite in this 7 year old girl. We worked with her for 9 months to resolve the habits before placing her braces.
After
The first phase of treatment consisted of an expander appliance and anterior braces to correct the skeletal problems. A finishing phase of full braces was delivered when the side teeth erupted at age 13. Phase I = 12 months, phase II = 10 months.
