Case Description
Hi - a dentist in Florida diagnosed that my lower left rear molar is infected and cannot be saved. It already had two root canals and oral surgery to remove one root). He also thought the bone was damaged to an extent that an implant would not work. The wisdom tooth next to it is in good shape however so he thought a bridge could be the best option for replacement.
So, for extraction, should I try a regular dentist first or go right to an oral surgeon?
I have no insurance and would like to avoid unnecessary cost but not put myself at risk of course. I am thinking that regular dentist would first verify if the tooth must come out for sure - then may extract it if necessary?
Other recommendations?
Thanks.

When selecting a new doctor, consider the following:
Quality of Explanations: Compare dentist replies. Give preference to well-reasoned, detail-oriented, transparent explanations.
Experience & Qualifications: If a dentist has a practice listing, check their practice description,
special training, typical office procedures and before & after case photographs.
Other Patients' Freedback: If a dentist has reviews, read other patients' reviews. The more
reviews they have, the more likely it is that other patients' feeback is accurate.
Treatment Costs: Dental procedure costs vary from practice to practice and depend on a variety of factors.
Because quality of patient care and treatment results vary from practice to practice most dentists will not "price-match" treatment fees of others.

best option if your tooth is hopeless is to extract and replace with an implant, if not enough bone then a bone graft is required .this procedure is perform by a GP that had some exposure to bone grafting or an oral surgeon.a bridge is normally a second option and it all depend on how your anchor teeth are in respect to strength and long term prognosis especially your wisdom tooth.the cost will vary depending wich option you choose from $2,500-$5,000. I hope this will help you and good luck!Dr B.

I suggest that you see an Oral surgeon for the extraction and Dr. Lakha in Palo Alto is excellent. He will also be a good person to talk to regarding implant in the future.

You could save some time going directly to the oral surgeon for the extraction, but you will have to see a general dentist in the area to have a bridge made eventually. In order to have everything planned properly, you may want to have a general dentist take a look first in order to have a treatment plan formulated. You should use your general dentist like a general contractor. Just don''''t yell at him.
